Fishkill, N.Y. The Hudson Valley Renegades (15-22) was handed their second straight loss tonight by the Aberdeen Ironbirds (22-15) in an 8-1 ballgame. The Ironbirds landed seven hits to the Renegades two over six innings of play.
Ironbirds center-fielder Robert Andrews (0-2) and first baseman Christopher Vinyard (2-4) combined for five of Aberdeens eight runs.
Vinyard put the Ironbirds on the board in the second when he was knocked home on a double by designated hitter Joel Pacheco (1-4) following a walk. He scored again in the fourth after hitting a ground rule double to right field.
Andrews scored in the third, fifth and sixth innings following a walk each frame.
The Renegades remained scoreless until the eighth inning. Right-fielder Maiko Loyola (1-4) cracked a triple to left field before first-baseman Matthew Fields (2-3) hit a RBI single and scored Loyola.
Gades outfielder Quinn Stewart went one-for-four tonight, extending his hitting streak to six games.
Aberdeen starting pitcher Jason Berken (1-2) got the win after pitching seven strong innings. He gave up two hits, two walks and struck out four. Hudson Valley starting pitcher Ryan Owen (2-1) took the loss after 4.1 innings and six hits. He gave up five runs four were earned.
The Renegades take on the Baby Bombers tomorrow afternoon, 4 p.m., at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Gades return home Monday and take on the Staten Island Yankees at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans through the gates at Dutchess Stadium receive a free adult t-shirt courtesy of Atlas Star and WPDH.
