GADES BATTLE, BUT FALL IN SEASON FINALE

FISHKILL, NY (September 7, 2007) – The 2007 season came to an end tonight for the Hudson Valley Renegades.  Vermont topped the Renegades 8-4 in the finale, but the ‘Gades walked off the field to a standing ovation from the crowd of 4,864.

The Lake Monsters were able to strike early and often tonight off of starter Alex Cobb (5-6).  Garrett Bass entered action with a .381 batting average against Hudson Valley.  He was again a thorn in their side, batting 2-5 with two runs batted in.

Reid Fronk and Jimmy Mayer each had a pair of hits in the loss while Emeel Salem swiped his 28th base.  Ryan Zimmerman, Travis Barnett, Noah Booth and Kevin Boggan all tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Adrian Alaniz won his eighth game on the mound for the Lake Monsters in relief of 2007 first-round draft pick Josh Smoker.  Smoker threw just two innings and allowed two runs on two base hits.

The Renegades finished with a record of 34-42, an improvement from 2006 (31-43).  The team played competitive baseball all season long.  They came up on the short-end of 16 one-run ball games this summer.

Before the fireworks show, the Hudson Valley Renegades fans and front office honored GM Dave Burke.  Burke’s four-year tenure with the ‘Gades came to a bittersweet end as he will take over as general manager for the Independent League Grand Prairie AirHogs (Texas).

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will send eight players (Alex Cobb, Michael McCormick, Cody Cipriano, Omar Luna, Shawn O’Malley, Henry Wrigley, Reid Fronk and Emeel Salem) to their instructional league this fall in Florida.
