Renegades Win Fourth in a Row

The Renegades continue their winning ways recording their fourth win in a row defeating the Staten Island Yankees, 2-1, in front of 4,967 fans at Dutchess Stadium Wednesday night.

Wednesday night’s game was a story of pitching staffs. The two teams combined to strike out 22 batters (13 strikeouts for the Renegades and nine for the Yankees) and walked just four (three for the Renegades and one for the Yankees).

Renegades starter Alexander Colome started his fourth game of the season and recorded a stellar outing. Colome did not allow a hit to the first 14 batters he faced until giving up a double to Hector Rabago in the fifth. The Yankees starter, Trenton Lare, was equally as productive retiring 15 of the first 16 batter he faced.

The game took a drastic turn in the top of the sixth when balls started flying and both teams received warnings from home plate umpire Aaron Larson. In the sixth inning, after grazing a batter and hitting another, Renegades starter Colome was ejected. Following the ejection Renegades Manager Brady Williams came out to argue the call with Larson and after a few words was ejected himself.

Following Colome’s ejection both teams received a warning from home plate umpire Larson.

Despite the warning the Yankees retaliated by hitting Dustin Biell to lead off the bottom of the sixth. After hitting Biell Yankees starter Lare along with Manager Josh Paul were ejected from the game.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Flannery came into the game following the ejection of Lare and allowed the Renegades to plate two runs. With the bases loaded and no outs, Tyler Bortnick grounded into a 4-6-3 double play which allowed Biell to advance 90 feet to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead. The Renegades increased their lead to 2-0 on an infield single off the bat of Brett Nommensen, which plated Diogenes Luis from third.

The Yankees offense attempted a rally in the visiting half of the eighth, but came up short. With two outs and a runner on second Carmen Angelini hit a bases clearing double to bring the score to its final 2-1, in favor of the Renegades.

Angel Chapa earned his second win of the season hurling two innings of three-hit, one-run baseball. Bladimir Florentino came into the game in the top of the eight and recorded four outs to earn his second save of the season.

The Renegades travel down to Staten Island Thursday night to play game three of the three-game series. The Yankees will be sending southpaw Schaeffer Hall (0-0, 1.86) to the hill and the 18-year-old Jason McEachern will be getting the ball for the Renegades. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
